Five Out of Five
New Computer

I’ll keep this short and not so sweet; there‘s a reason five out of five crew members aboard Bagan have MacBooks…. The new computer arrived last night, the one we waited five days for, the one we paid a fortune to get up here and through Customs, the one that’s IBM based and state of the art, the one that runs Vista, not even XP… The very same one that last night crashed and locked us out the 2nd time we went to use it. Clinton has been up around the clock talking with Sandy (on my cell… don’t ask) trying to figure out what file or driver in what program Vista doesn’t like.  Once found they then have to try to get on line and find a better or more reliable driver, usually a third party’s.  Meanwhile I’ll finish writing this on my trusty three year old MacBook, attach a jpeg and upload it to the blog with absolutely no issues.  Five out of five.  No bets as to when we leave the dock.

Ouch. Keep us posted…

Maybe Apple should be a sponsor of this expedition.

Sounds to me like you need a PC technician rather than a Mac User’s Group… lol VISTA is your problem – get Windows XP Pro back on it and your driver problems will go away… unless you are trying to use Mac application interfacing to a PC…

Don’t blame the PC – blame Windoz…. had you used Linux it would be up and running for years… but you need to base your decision on the application rather than the platform or operating system it runs on.

WHAT DOES THIS COMPUTER ALLOW YOU TO DO? (IF AND WHEN IT IS WORKING?)

I may be able to suggest an alternative?

BTW: Still no subscription content from your website after making the online subscription request.

I didn’t pack you supplies for computer ills, unfortunately, but I’d be glad to fly up and help doctor your PC (seriously!)

(Sounds like an iMac with Win XP Pro run with BootCamp would be less headache. I could bring one with me….)

+1 on the reversion to Win XP Pro on your existing machine (I have copy if you need…)

Hey, Sprague!

I realize it’s not a race but Bagan better get a move on.

The Westsail 42 Fiona departed Lunenburg this afternoon for St. John’s, passing you in Halifax early this evening. The Corsair 31 Cap’n Lem is approaching Montreal on the St Lawrence River. The whereabouts of the purpose-built trawler yacht Polar Bound with Northwest Passage veteran David Scott Cowper aboard are not known.

On the left coast, Ocean Watch and Silent Sound, two sailboats bound for the Northwest Passage, are in or near Dutch Harbor, getting ready to tackle the Bering Sea.

You’re all bigots, let the application and drivers dictate the platform. I’m an Intel IPD for 18 years and am OS agnostic. Whatever the application and/or add-on hardware require is what you need. Macs are great for user interface, linux is bullet-proof once tweaked and tuned, MS OS’s are fine if you know what you are doing and turn off what you don’t need. Stop the d!*k banging and focus on the mission, get the application running and get on the way. All help anywhere/anytime is offered. Godspeed!
Regards,
Ed W.
